2009 IDSF Asian Championship and 3rd Manila IDSF Open

Ms. Becky Garcia, President of the Dance Sport Council of the Philippines announces the winners in the recently concluded “2009 IDSF Asian Championships” and the “3rd Manila IDSF Open Latin & Standard Competition” held June 21 at the Isla Grand Ballroom of the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel.

Special guests who graced the event were the International DanceSport Federation President Mr. Carlos Freitag and wife Evelyn who flew in from Spain, PRA General Manager Hon. Andrea Domingo who was also the Overall Chairperson of the event, DOT Undersecretary Cynthia Carrion, Cong. Rene Velarde and PSC Commissioner Eric Loretizo with the full attendance of ballroom dance enthusiasts and supporters.   Also there were the DSCPI Board of Directors, Atty. Noel Laman, Atty. Jo Saliva, Gloria Alcala, Atty. Andy Fornier, Marvie Cojuangco-Yulo, Chona Mercado, Emma Nieto, Ruby Co, Rebecca Jose, Nanette Mendoza, Victoria Alix and IDSF Licensed Adjudicators Mr. Keiji Ukai – Japan (Chairman), Mr. Gary Wilson – New Zealand, Ms. Daniela Novak – Slovenia, Mr. George Tan – Malaysia, Mr. Anantapat Sriprapat – Thailand, Mr. Christian Bradbury – Hong Kong, Ms. Masako Nakano – Japan, Ms. Tiffany Lee – Chinese, Mr. Young Tak-Park – Korea and Ms. Gloria Alcala – Philippines.

Standard Discipline - Masayuki Ishihara & Ayami Kubo from Japan (Gold), Plokhikh Yevgeny & Klylichnikova Alyona from Kazakhstan (Silver), Pietro Del Bello & Faye Hung from Hong Kong (Bronze), Sangwung Nam & Yina Song from Korea – 4th place, Takeo Wachi & Kiriko Wachi from Japan – 5th place, Yaroslav Kvashnin & Natalya Beklemisheva from Kazakhstan – 6th place. Latin Discipline – Yumiya Kubota & Rara Kubota from Japan (Gold), Ronnie Steeve Vergara & Charlea Lagaras from the Philippines (Silver), Akhmet Kalmatayev & Khristina Ivolgina from Kazakhstan (Bronze), Watcharakorn Suasuebpun & ML Warapa Jumbala from Thailand – 4th place, Gerald Jamili & Carol Bacera from the Philippines – 5th place, Aleksei Kibkalo & Victoriya Kachalko from Kyrgzstan – 6th place.

3rd Manila IDSF Open Standard & Latin Competition Grade A Open winners Standard Discipline - Plokhikh Yevgeny & Klylichnikova Alyona from Kazakhstan (1st place), Masayuki Ishihara & Ayami Kubo from Japan (2nd place), Pietro Del Bello & Faye Hung from Hong Kong (3rd place), Daesung Kang & Hanah Jang from Korea (4th place), Takeo Wachi & Kiriko Wachi from Japan (5th place), Yaroslav Kvashnin & Natalya Bekemisheva from Kazakhstan (6th place). Latin Discipline – Yumiya Kubota & Rara Kubota from Japan (1st place), Sergei Zviagin & Tatyana Yugay from Kazakhstan (2nd place), Akhmet Kalmatayev & Khristina Ivolgina from Kazakhstan (3rd place), Watcharakorn Suasuebpun & ML Warapa Jumbala from Thailand – (4th place), Ginga Morita & Aiko Kowada from Japan (5th place), Mihail Kamarda & Valeriya Kachalko from Kyrgyzstan (6th place. Aside from the trophies the winners were also given cash prizes.

The highlight of the welcome dinner hosted by DSCPI for the foreign delegates and competitors was the performance of “The Bayanihan, The National Folk Dance Company of the Philippines” which was sponsored by DOT Undersecretary Cynthia Carrion and the Antipolo kids brought in by PDSAP President Belinda Adora.
