When Istanbul was granted the title European Capital of Sports 2012 IOC President Jaques Rogge stated:

"Sport, like music, is something universal, something that is understood all around the world, regardless of social, ethnic or religious differences. Not only sport is universal, but also its values."

This year, Antwerp is awarded the title of European Capital of Sports. The objective of the European Capital of Sports Award is an ethical commitment conscious of the social function that sport has as a link between the physical well-being of individuals, the general improvement in their quality of life and the harmonious integration of society.

DanceSport is honoured to be the first event in a long line of 40 sports events during this year. The WDSF Member Body of Belgium together with the local organisers Karina and Jan Geerts as well as Monique and Hubert deMaesschalk are fully aware of this importance and value. We would like to thank them for bringing three World Championships to Antwerp and for making this weekend very special.

DanceSport is the main headline this weekend in Antwerp. Tomorrow there is a dancing promenade around the city with demonstrations of all dance styles including Hip Hop, Wheelchair Dancing, Rock 'n’ Roll and many more. DanceSport - Standard and Latin - introduces itself in a show competition tomorrow presenting 12 couples from different countries.
