Different Expectations 18/02/2013

WDSF has certainly raised the bar when it comes to the timely publication of competition results on this website. In fact, some results are now available live, after each round, from the competition venues.

Considerable effort went into the authoring of an application programming interface (API) that allows for certified scrutineering software to communicate directly with worlddancesport.org, posting results here the very instant they are made public at the venue.

Not all organisers seem very keen on using this state-of-the-art feature though. "People in the hall can follow the comp," writes one organiser, "and the ones not present should come next year to follow it." Well, that is one way of looking at it, but definitely not the most appropriate one for some of the visitors ... And they write to us too!

"I tried plenty of times to know something about the competition in ... but could not find any satisfaction! All the time I found the word UPCOMING. Sorry this is not quality!" GCM told us in an e-mail with PROTEST in the subject line.

In view of this, it's all the more refreshing that Jochen Römling allowed us to include some of his photography of the recent Copenhagen Open in our Gallery and in this article. Find the entire selection on facebook.
