Grand Slam Bidding 01/04/2011

Zoran Plohl - Tatsiana Lahvinovich, CRO, 2010 GS Fina

The existing bid document for the Grand Slam Series was thoroughly revised by IDSF First Vice-President Lukas Hinder and television consultant Richard Bunn.

An amended version, which is far more comprehensive than its predecessor, has recently been circulated to the National Member Bodies.

In an accompanying letter, the IDSF President and the authors describe the reasons for some of the new requirements that will affect Grand Slam bidding from 2012.

"It is important for the future of our sport that competitions are developed to show athletes in the best light and attract wide exposure through the media.

In recent years, the IDSF through its contract with IEC in Sports, has increased the international awareness of the five major Championships in Standard, Latin and Ten Dance. New opportunities are constantly being developed to increase this awareness.

International Federations must keep in mind that broadcasters are most interested in events planned long in advance, taking place at fixed times in the year and at well established venues with an enthusiastic audience.

With this objective, the IDSF Managing Committee would like to develop the Grand Slam Series in the future as a unified product with fixed dates, fixed venues and a common look."
