IDSF Open St. Petersburg 27/04/2008

IDSF IDSF Int’l Open Standard and Open Latin Competitions in St. Petersburg

The annual “Cup of the Governor” Festival was held again at the Orthodox Easter Weekend on April, 26th & 27th in – as not only locals believe – Russia’s most beautiful city. The not so usual format with preliminary rounds held on Saturday and the later rounds up to finals held on Sunday again turned out to be a great success for organisers Larissa & Konstantin Romanenko.

All matters well organised and participants cordially hosted it was a great pleasure to be part of such a good party. Party was also celebrated in a very special way Saturday night by a highly profiled group of international teachers. Bryan Watson & Carmen, Andrew Sinkinson, Geir Bakke, Gianni d’Oria, Edita Daniute, Marko Vodnik and myself ended up discussing rise and fall. Andrew lectured thoroughly questioned by Carmen while Gianni and Edita demonstrated beautifully.

The officially planned demonstration was given on Sunday by Bryan & Carmen. They truly fascinated the audience in one of their “last but one” demonstrations as they decided to only go on for the current season. They topped the fabulous atmosphere in the renowned ice arena of St. Petersburg. Both venues (the Saturday rounds were held in the Park Inn Hotel) seemed to be well chosen, but especially the live music on Sunday highlighted the excellent competitors’ performances.
