June 2012 24/12/2012

That the delegates to the 2012 General Meeting and the movers of different motions to amend the WDSF Ethical Codes were able to reach a first consensus by agreeing on the withdrawal of the motions was the positive outcome of a long debate.

On 17 June, the General Meeting spent several hours deliberating motions that touched on the sensitive issue of restrictions to be imposed in order to safeguard the notion of dance as a coherent and universal sport.

In the end, and with all motions tabled until such time that a total consensus was reached, the delegates resolved to abstain from applying the sanctions contemplated in the current ethical codes for athletes and officials taking part in “Non-WDSF Events.”

Other Annual General Meeting Outcomes

Daniel Stehlin, SUI, was unanimously  elected as the new chairman of the Disciplinary Council. The Swiss lawyer works as a public prosecutor and heads the Special Office for Prosecuting Organised Crime in the canton of Basel Land.

Ken Richards, USA, was elected Presidium Member by his fellow delegates. He defeated Moune Marty, FRA, in the ballotting for the position and fills the position vacated by Ferruggio Galvagno, ITA, for the remainder of the WDSF Presidium's term.

Zoran Plohl, SLO, serves as the new chairman of the WDSF Athletes' Commission since 1 July 2012. He also assumed the role as an ex officio member on the WDSF Presidium, succeeding Timo Kulcak, GER, in both positions.
