THE World Latin - In Earnest 05/11/2009

Many of the top contenders for the title of 2009 World DanceSport Champion Latin took part in a “team match” on 31 October in Graz, AUT. The invitational event at the Stadthalle was organised by the local dance school Kern-Theissel and billed as the “Latin World Trophy.”

An audience of 3,500 paid the hefty admission for the privilege to watch Latin couples from as far away as China and South Africa warm up for the real contest – THE World Latin – which takes place on 7 November in Maribor, SLO, not even one hour’s drive from Graz.

The Russian “team” made up of Alexey Silde – Anna Firstova and Andrey Zaitsev – Anna Kuzminskaya won the match on 31 October, and a respectable purse as well. One week later – and 70 km to the south – only one couple will be declared winners in earnest … Which one?
