The Swiss DanceSport Federation 07/12/2011

Walter Varisco, SDSF President

It is VISION 2012 applied what the Swiss DanceSport authorities agreed upon by adopting the proposals brought forward by Walter Varisco, President of STSV (Schweizer Tanzsport Verband).

Varisco (left) succeeded in uniting all organisations in charge of the administration of the different dance styles in Switzerland under one strong and all-encompassing brand: DanceSport.

When the Swiss DanceSport Federation (SDSF) came into existence - on 28 November - it extended the scope of what constitutes DanceSport in a small, important and always leading-edge country.

Switzerland has been a trendsetter in DanceSport from day one. It was one of the founding members of the WDSF predecessor bodies FIDA and ICAD.

By opening itself to all the other bona fide DanceSport organisations such as the

  • Swiss Rock ’n' Roll Confederation
  • Swiss-IDO
  • Swiss Country Western Dance Association

and including them as SDSF partners in their full rights, STSV made a statement that was well received by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) as well. Swiss Olympic transferred its recognition of the STSV to the new organisation SDSF, and all the new stakeholders in SDSF readily accepted to abide by NOC rules and regulations.

Just how leading-edge DanceSport in Switzerland continues to be through this development is best appreciated by looking at the official SDSF magazine and website.
