2013 World Opens Gothenburg, SWE 21/09/2013

Gothenburg World Open

21 Saturday 2013, an autumn weekend in late September. Everybody even remotely interested in DanceSport is still on endorphins from a whole week of incredible, beautiful and varying coverage from Kaohsiung, TPE. But what now? Should we spend the weekend watching football and hockey again? Don't worry, there is a solution: if you move your eyes from the east to the north, you can add two more days to your ultimate experience of DanceSport fireworks and follow the Gothenburg World Open live through the WDSF.

Not only is this competition located at the other end of the world, it is also a totally different kind of arrangement. For the 7th time in a row, Team Gothenburg Elite Dance (Team GED), the biggest club for Ten Dance in Sweden, invites all Standard and Latin dancers to Sweden's second largest city in order to participate in two days dominated by familiar atmosphere and personal service. The event has grown significantly from an unknown WDSF Open and is for the first time arranged as a WDSF World Open with a total of more than 120 couples from 20 different countries. Many of them have been participating year after year.

All the helpers at this event do their job for the love of DanceSport and because they enjoy seeing parts of the world elite perform and compete in their own town in a country where Ten Dance is not as widely practised as in the neighbouring countries. Most of them have years of experience arranging WDSF competitions, and what has previously been a very pleasant weekend is still continually improving so we can offer our couples and judges an event they like to come back to.

The competition starts on Saturday at 14:00 with the WSDF World Open Latin (finals from 20:30) and on Sunday at 10:00 with the WDSF World Open Standard (finals from 16:00). In between, you can see some local Swedish ranking classes in the opposite discipline.
